2014 Fire Chief of the Year Recognition Program
It is the intent of the Illinois Fire Chiefs’ Association (IFCA) to recognize outstanding contributions to the fire service at the state and national levels.
The IFCA will consider nominations of chief officers in Illinois who have significant, ongoing contributions in our profession. Considerations include, but are not limited to, public education and life safety advancements; innovative and entrepreneurial efforts and accomplishments; education and or credential portfolio; public-private sector contributions; and other significant recurring performance hallmarks.
Recipients of recognition by IFCA may be recommended for further consideration at the national level.

ENTRY LEVEL FIREFIGHTER TESTING
The Board of Fire & Police Commissioners of the City of Effingham, Illinois will hold entry level firefighter testing beginning with a mandatory orientation on March 28, 2014 followed by the physical agility test (pass/fail) and written examination on March 29, 2014. The top 50 candidates passing the written examination will then take part in the oral interviews scheduled April 5, 2014. This process will establish an eligibility list for the position of FIREFIGHTER for the City of Effingham Fire Department.
Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen, at least 21 and under 35 years of age, possess a valid driver’s license, and high school diploma or G.E.D. All applications must include a copy of the applicant’s valid Driver’s License, Military Service Record, Military Discharge Papers, Social Security Card, High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate, College or University Diploma, and certified copy of College or University transcripts.
The mandatory orientation will be held at City Hall, 201 E. Jefferson Avenue, Effingham, Illinois 62401. Doors for the orientation will open at 6:00 p.m. and the program begins promptly at 7 p.m. Anyone arriving after that time will not be admitted. Details relating to the testing process will be discussed at the orientation. Spouses are encouraged to attend with applicants. The physical agility test will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 29 at the Effingham Junior High School auditorium located at 600 S. Henrietta Avenue. Late arrivals will not be admitted and will be excluded from the remainder of the testing process. Applicants must bring with them a current legible photo ID.
Applications are available at Effingham City Hall, Administration Offices, 201 E. Jefferson Avenue, Effingham, and on the City’s website at http://www.effinghamil.com. Applications and all required supplemental documents must be returned to Effingham City Hall along with a $25 non-refundable testing fee no later than 5:00 P.M., March 14, 2014. Candidates with incomplete applications will not be allowed to take part in the examination process. An orientation/testing packet will be mailed to all candidates whose applications are received by the deadline.
