The Village of Lansing, Illinois, a leading suburb located about 20 miles south of the heart of Chicago, bordering the state of Indiana, with a population of just over 28,000, is seeking an experienced, dedicated professional to lead a first-‐rate combination career and part-‐time department in the position of Fire Chief. The Department responds to 3,700 +/-‐ total calls annually from three stations throughout a 6.8 square mile corporate limit. The Department consists of a full-‐time Chief, Deputy Chief, 4 Lieutenants, 18 full-‐time Firefighter/Paramedics, and 24 paid-‐on-‐call Firefighter/Paramedics.
Position Qualifications: A minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science, Public Administration, Business or related field. Master’s Degree preferred. Ten years of experience serving a progressive municipal fire department with a minimum of five years in a supervisory capacity as a Lieutenant, Captain, Deputy Fire Chief or equivalent. Looking for a proven leader with high ethical standards, effective oral and written communication skills, perseverance, energy, flexibility and a cooperative disposition. Must possess considerable knowledge of modern firefighting methods, fire prevention, fire safety, fire inspection, fire suppression, fire investigation, modern training principles, EMS, disaster preparedness, public education and budgeting. Must also have considerable experience in labor relations and community relations. Positive and professional demeanor a must.
Essential Functions: Oversee the operations of the department by planning, directing and administering all activities, including recruiting personnel, purchasing equipment, writing policies and procedures, and managing accreditation requirements, as well as the budgeting process. Develop initiatives designed to maintain department efficiency and responsiveness in order to meet the needs of the residents, businesses and traveling public.

Out of State applicants must be eligible to be certified in the State of Illinois. Current salary range: $90,000 -‐ $110,000, d.o.q. , along with excellent benefits.
