Illinois Fire Chiefs Association Elect Fire Chief Sean Maloy as their New President for 201/2015
Fire Chief Sean Maloy of the Bedford Park Fire Department has been elected president of the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association (IFCA) Board of Directors. IFCA board members were selected by voting delegates at the annual conference held October 12th – 15th in Peoria, Illinois. Sean M. Maloy is the fire chief of the Bedford Park (IL) Fire Department. During his 25-plus years in the fire service Chief Maloy held every rank in the department on his way to promotion to Fire Chief in January 2003. Chief Maloy has been a member of the executive board and President of the Metropolitan Fire Chiefs Association of Illinois and was first elected as the Area 3 Representative to the IFCA in 2009. He also is a past co-chair of the MABAS –IL Hazardous Materials committee and a past co-chair of the Cook County UASI Training and Exercise committee. Chief Maloy has represented the Illinois fire service while hosting a tactical exercise of TopOff 2 in 2003, during a deployment to Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and in Warsaw, Poland for Eskulap 2009, a multi-national military training exercise during which he worked with members of the Illinois National Guard, Illinois Air National Guard and the Polish military on chemical and biological weapons response and patient decontamination, triage and treatment. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Illinois University- Carbondale, a Master of Science degree from Benedictine University in Lisle, IL , is certified by the OSFM as a Fire Officer 3 and was awarded the professional designation of Chief Fire Officer (CFOD) from the Center for Public Safety Excellence in 2013.

2014 Legislator of the Year
State Senator Martin A. Sandoval
State Senator Martin Sandoval of the 11th District in Illinois, D-Chicago, was named “2014 Legislator of the Year” by the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association
(IFCA) at their annual conference last week in Peoria.
The IFCA represents over 1300 members throughout Illinois. The IFCA honors yearly the legislator who has supported fire service legislation and promoted
the interests of fire service personnel.
Martin Sandoval, D-Chicago, was sworn into office on January 8, 2003 in the newly created 11th Legislative District. Senator Sandoval became one of four
Latinos to be elected to the Illinois Senate for the 93rd General Assembly.
Sandoval was born in The Back of the Yards, a neighborhood on Chicago’s Southwest Side. He was a graduate of Quigley Preparatory Seminary South High School
and went on to continue his studies at Loyola University in Chicago where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology.
Martin Sandoval’s commitment to public service has spanned more than fifteen years and he is an expert in procurement and environmental protection. His
service in the public arena includes appointments to the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs, and ten years at the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency. He also held leadership positions in various federal labor unions.
Sandoval’s core beliefs are rooted in the community and he is actively involved in several not-for-profit organizations. He continues to sponsor science
fairs and provides much needed resources to the Socorro Sandoval School Park Campus, a school named after his late sister who was a Chicago Public School
Teacher. He serves on the board of Catholic Charities of Chicago, Advocate Bethany Hospital and the Save-A-Life Foundation. He also has received numerous
community and public service awards for his dedication.
Sandoval resides in the Chicago Southwest Side neighborhood of Gage Park with his wife Marina, their twins Martin Jr. and Angie and their daughter Jenny.

RETENTION AND RECRUITMENT
The Illinois Fire Chiefs is sponsoring workshops specially tailored to train fire service leaders and those in positions that handle retention, recruitment and training of volunteer firefighters. There is still room to register for any these workshops throughout the state:
• Kanakee, IL - August 9-10, 2014
• Marion, IL - November 8-9, 2014
There is NO COST to attend the workshop. Roundtrip travel, 2 nights lodging, and per diem will be reimbursed to attendees after the workshop.
